For the latest
information, check my blog.
One
of my favorite books about writing and about writers. Stephen King
tells the story of his life as a writer, both good and bad. It's a
great read, and although there may be better books on technique out
there, this is still one of my favorites!
Natalie
Goldberg's original work on writing, Writing Down the Bones, is also
excellent, but this is my favorite. Taught me how to "just write it"
and ignore the editor. Very freeing and very interesting read, even
if you don't want to write a novel.
My
latest favorite in the "how to write" genre of books. Clear,
informative, and amazingly useful, this book helped me understand
how to create a believable character better than any other book I
ever read.
My
copy is so old it has the original yellow cover. If you buy it now,
you get this cover, I guess. What's between the covers is what
matters, and the stuff inside the covers is awesome. Learned a ton
about scene/sequel, motivation, etc. from this book. A little dry,
but fantastic anyway.
Cover
model for Hawkes Abandon (and about 100 other romance novel
covers!), Andrei Claude's official website has more than a little
eye candy. I don't know if this helps writers or not, but frankly,
it can't hurt.
